Exhibition catalogue for MONALISA, held January 19 - March 9, 2010 at Hauser & Wirth, New York. Organized around a recently rediscovered box of drawings from 1969 by Applebroog, the show offers a first-generation feminist twist on the conventions of self-portraiture. Initially forgotten by the artist, these recovered works became the source of new drawing-installation that constitutes the work reproduced in this catalogue. Includes an extensive essay on relating this recent project to the historical legacies of Feminist Art by Julia Bryan-Wilson.
